Re: Leather supplies

Mick

Both Greenhalgh Tannery based in Victoria and Birdsall (Sydney?) are good to deal with...they certainly sell whole hides and backs in a range of thicknesses (up to 3.5mm). Not sure that they offer offcuts though.

Re: feather fletching and international travel

Make sure you fill out your customs/quarantine declaration ticking the box that you are carrying animal products. Go through the relevant isle at the airport and have the feathers ready to show the officer. They will most likely have a quick look at the feathers and pass you through. It's much quick...

Re: weird spider sacks

Rod I have the same spider egg sacs in my garden at the moment.......hadn't seen them before either. I located a spider identification site for SE Qld on the web: www.usq.edu.au/spider/index.htm The egg sacs are similar to those pictured for the 'magnificent spider' Ordgarius magnificus . Also, have...

bow mass and draw weight

Hi Jape Here are the mass and draw weights for the bows in my household 760g Samick Equus (48lb) 652g Martin Viper (60lb) 505g Martin Rebel (54lb) 910g Toth Hun (51lb). The Viper always feels very light in the hand for the size of the bow and is the one I enjoy shooting the most. The post by Simon s...

Thanks guys...I'll try heating the points and pulling the heads off. I guess I like the flexibility offered by RPS on alloys and carbons and had not thought of a satisfactory way to change heads on wood. I'll give hot melt a go, if the points end up dislodging I'll go back to araldite and heat them ...

Hot melt

I'm making up a new set of timber arrows and have reached the point where I have to decide on what type of point (style and weight) I'm going to use. Previously, I've either glued (using araldite) field points or broadheads on. ...this pretty much fixes the use of the arrow from then on, as I am not...

Grahame

Thanks for the info.

I asked because I'm considering joining a club. 3D appeals more than Olympic style target archery, so I might try the North Albert group.

Thanks again

There's a forum called Kayak Fishing Down Under - kfdu.com.au There's a group on the sunshine coast (SEQld) that paddle 1-2km or so offshore to catch mackerral out of kayaks.......seems risky to me....too much likelihood of attracting something larger, initially to the blood trail and then to the vi...

Do you have any information about SEQld clubs (web links, venues etc) and what types of archery (target, 3D etc ) they participate in?

Hey Grahame Interesting weapon/hunting tool. There are accompanying videos on making an Atlatl...might give it a go some time. Aborigines have their own version, and I knew they were used in Western Europe (stone age) but did not know they were also a Nth American weapon. Would add an intetesting di...

And here's me thinking that was your bowhunting tally! I'm all for eating what we shoot or catch. I lived in Moree (NW NSW) for a few years and fished for yellowbelly and cod primarily to put a meal on the table (I also enjoy fishing). I recognise that many other avenues of hunting (rifle, dogs etc)...

Mick Point taken. It would be interesting to see what proportion of bowhunting kills are male vs female. If your figures are representative then that's great. I guess in the broader picture, bowhunters are a very small drop in the bucket when it comes to feral animal control. The most recent estimat...

In reading these and previous posts I've seen the term conservation used by bowhunters as a rationale for shooting feral animals. I just thought I'd add a biologists perspective on conservation hunting. Most of the photographs I see posted on this forum are of male animals (ferals) whether it be pig...

Hi All I owned a York 66" LH recurve 30#@28" from when I was a kid (early 70's) until about 18mths ago. Only ever shot in the back yard and was never very good. I bought an Internature 62" recurve RH 30#@28" for my son and realised that even though I am LH'ed, I'm right eye domin...

Chris can stand on his back and crack a whip and his dog often jumps up there as well! The biggest problem with shooting at a ca...

Hello to everyone! My son and I have been regular visitors to Ozbow for the last year or so. Thought it was about time one of us registered. We've had a couple of trips chasing rabbits and some bowfishing experience. My son (Chris) has been practising shooting from horseback the last couple of days....
